We Are Not Our Own

Posted by John Vawter on

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?For you have been bought with a price: Therefore, glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

“You are not your own” is a tough truth to understand and live out in our consumer-oriented society. But, the Word of God is clear...we are not our own. So, as people wanting to grow in Christ, be more like Him in our daily lives, and share His love with the people with whom we come into contact, we must keep growing in Him. In view of our desire to grow in our understanding of Him and His ownership over us, we want to move forward together.

Bethany Bible Church has had wonderful success with six-week studies centered around the Sunday morning sermons. Your response in the past has been very rewarding. Starting February 6, we are going to focus on six different aspects of Christ’s ownership over us. In addition to the sermons, we will have small groups where we can dig deeper into the truths, share with one another where we need to grow, and help one another grow. Small groups are a wonderful place to apply what we learn on Sunday and interact on thoughtful questions.

The six areas of study are:

  • Our minds—specifically our desires and attitudes
  • Our relationships and friendships
  • Our time and personal disciplines
  • Our financial resources
  • Our gifts and talents
  • Our vocations

Terry Montague and Ted Wueste have designed a study guide to go along with the sermon series. Each week the study guide will lead us in reflection and meditation on the biblical texts we have studied and lead us in personal examination, application, and prayer exercises. Additionally, the study guide will have questions and reflections for each Grow Group.

Because of Bethany’s past success with this six-week format, we strongly encourage you to join a Grow Group and work through the study guide.  Registration for these small groups has already begun. You can sign up at The Hub on Sundays or here on our website.

We look forward to growing with you.
